True Blood at PaleyFest 2011: A Fan's Perspective

Wow! I went to PaleyFest 2011's True Blood panel, and I'm still blown away by how amazing it was! It felt like the entire cast was there (all major characters were well represented), including the brains behind the show, Alan Ball. I should also mention that this Paley Fest panel actually took place at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, rather than at the actual Paley Center, which has far fewer seats.

The panel started late, and opened with a clip package from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Those of us in the audience who are/were Buffy fans cheered and clapped at this, since it can be argued that True Blood is the vampire show that took Buffy's place on television and in film history. Afterwards, Alan came back to the podium to share a special clips package from True Blood seasons 1, 2, 3, and a special unfinished clip from season 4! True Blood's Tanya Wright to Speak about Women's History Month

Wright is Presenting at East Stroudsburg University at 4PM on March 15

Tanya Wright (Kenya Jones) kicked off Women's History Month this afternoon by presenting at Beer's Lecture Hall at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) in Pennsylvania. The 'True Blood' deputy (and tough cookie) is speaking about her journey as a creative black woman in Hollywood, as well as how she learned to develop opportunities as an artist. Wright recently published her first book, "Butterfly Rising," a story inspired by her own experiences with personal tragedy and transformation. The screen version of the book, which Wright wrote, directed and produced, will soon make its way to the independent film festival circuit. Love for Luna: Meet One of True Blood Season 4's New Characters

Meet and Greet with Luna

New TrueBlood cast member Janina Gavinkar sat down with Inside TrueBlood to briefly dish about Luna, the schoolteacher she plays in the upcoming Season 4 of True Blood. Like all the members of the True Blood cast, she's careful about what details she reveals. However, we can be confident that Luna and Sam Merlotte (played by Sam Trammell) are thrown together from the start and that romance is in the air for Bon Temps favorite bar owner. As is evidenced by this clip. Gavinkar reveals she's worked mostly with Sam and that her second day of shooting was actually a night shoot in freezing cold weather. She also says Lafayette is her favorite character and that she's Team Bill. Says Gavinkar of what fans will like about the Luna story line:

"I think they'll enjoy watching a nice girl from outside of Bon Temps fall for Sam Merlotte. I know there are plenty of fans who would love him to find a nice girl... Luna could be that person!"

Season 4 Spoiler Alert: Everyone's Favorite Maker Returns

Godric to Come Back in Season 4  

Michael Ausiello of TV Line has just learned that Godric played by the wonderful Allan Hyde will be returning in Season 4!  You may recall that we did see Godric at the end of season three, where he appeared as an apparition of sorts to his troubled progeny Eric (Alexander Skarsgård). Of the return, Ausiello had this to say:

True Blood EP Alan Ball isn't offering too many clues, except to say that fans will see "a different side of Godric."

A different side huh? I wonder what that could mean? More flashbacks perhaps?  There is no word on the specifics of Allan Hyde's return in terms of when it will occur in the season or for how long.  But stay tuned Truebies; TBN will have any and all information if and when it is released! Season 4 Spoiler: True Blood's New Werewolf

Shreveport Packmaster Has Been Cast!

Season 4 of True Bloodis drawing closer, and with that the cast continues to grow. And we've got great news for Werewolf fans - The Packmaster has been chosen. Actor Daniel Buran has been cast and will no doubt play an important role as Alcide's sometimes furry boss, Raoul. Not much is known about Raoul's role in Season 4 however in the episode 4.5 casting call, he is described as:

I went wait a minute, there are werewolves in this story? I loved the werewolves in the old Lon Chaney Jr. horror movies since I was a kid. So I went to Amazon and ordered the books and started reading them. Sure enough, I read the description of the character where Sookie opens the door and looks up and has to look up again and there's this giant, dark haired guy with long, untameable black hair and said if he'd shaved in the morning, he'd haveto shave again. My alternative (besides chatting with fellow fans here on TrueBloodNet.com) has been to turn to books to make the wait less painful. However, I can only go so far with vampires. Sometimes I prefer to read about were-creatures and shapeshifters. One writer with several shapeshifting characters in her books that I read all the time is Moira Rogers. Technically, Moira is composed of two women, Bree and Donna. They're brilliant, incredibly funny, and very witty. And yes, all of these traits show up consistently in their books. Take, for example, Crux, which is the first book from their Southern Arcana series. Crux is the story of Jackson Holt and Mackenzie Brooks, a private investigator and a woman on the run from a stalker. But of course, nothing is as simple as that. True Blood fans, it's almost here!  Season 4 filming is underway, and HBO has been casting actors left and right!  We've given updates previously that included Claude(woot!) here,  and new fangbanger Matt here.  We now know who will be playing Callum (British bartender) whom we referenced here.  Pictured to the right, Darren Darnborough has appeared on several television shows in the UK, and has done a bit of producing as well.  Welcome, Darren! Sam Trammell Opens Up About the Road Ahead in Season 4

Sam Spills the Beans on Being a Shape Shifter

Sam Trammell, who plays our favorite shape shifter and bar owner Sam Merlotte, recently sat down with Rosy from the blog Accidental Sexiness in an exclusive interview to talk about True Blood as well as some of the other projects Sam has been involved with over hiatus. Like the rest of the cast and crew, Trammell keeps a lid on most of the details for season four. But that didn't stop a few tidbits from popping out it during the course of the interview. Of his character's evolution in the past three seasons, Sam says that Mr. Merlotte has spent a lot of time hiding who he is and what he's been through especially in season one. But in seasons two and three fans were greeted with glimpses into the shape shifter's past. His connection to Maryanne (Michelle Forbes) was a critical element to the main storyline in season 2. In addition, it was revealed that Sam was not comfortable with his shape shifter nature until meeting Daphne (Ashley Jones). Season three saw Sam struggle with both the emotional baggage of his past as well as meeting his biological family, with his younger brother Tommy (Marshall Allman) being a particular brand of difficult. True Blood is Coming to PaleyFest 2011

Save the date Truebies! The Paley Center for Media has just announced its festival lineup for the 2011 William S. Paley Festival, also known as PaleyFest 2011! True Blood will be appearing on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California at 7PM. According to the Paley Center website, tickets will go on sale to Paley Center Members on Friday January 21, 2011 at 9am PST and Sunday, January 23, 2011 to the public also at 9am PST via Ticket Web. Prices for the General Public range from $25 to $75. VIP packages are on sale now for four shows each at $750. So far, the Paley Festival has not released the names of who will attend from True Blood. But SkarsgårdNews.com has confirmed that Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman) will be on the True Blood panel after speaking with the actor directly. As the event draws closer, hopefully there will be more confirmation from other cast and crew members. TBN will release updates if that happens.

Lafayette Reynolds, played by Nelsan Ellis, is one of the most beloved characters on True Blood. He was famously killed at the end of Charlaine Harris' first Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) novel, Dead Until Dark but True Blood creator Alan Ball loved the character too much and decided to keep him around. One of the things that Nelsan didn't expect however after being kept on the show was how complicated Lafayette's headwear would become. In season two, the Merlotte's cook and sometimes "V" dealer was seen in sixteen different headpieces leading to a continuity problem on the show.
