True Blood Brings Shape Shifting Infusion To TV

HOLLYWOOD—"True Blood" started Sunday night's episode titled "Never Let Me Go" with my favorite actress and character on the series, Ashley Jones as Daphne. The previous episode showcased Sam and Daphne in a warm embrace, with her whispering in his ear, "I know what you are." From one shape shifter to another I suppose.

Daphne had her fans on the Official "True Blood" Fan Page. Kurt Stennett said, "'True Blood' just started and Daphne's already naked, Woo! Hoo! And apparently she can shape shift like Sam." By the end of the episode the two were back in a sensual embrace which had fans joking that Daphne, like Sookie seems to always be having sex. But that's HBO.

Before the show even started fans were raving about the series on the "TB" Facebook page. Christie Walters stated, "Oh my gosh, 'TB' is the best show that HBO has ever come up with. We actually have parties every Sunday and then we all pile up in the living room to watch the show and it gets better every week." While Bathsheba Cohen exclaimed online, "This show makes my Sunday night, and the fix lasts until Thursday. I watch and analyze the episodes over and over again. I find myself watching it on demand and catching it when it comes on again. I am a 'True Blood' addict."

Last week I speculated and wondered about what Daphne was. A shape shifter, I have to say, is a surprise for me. Ashley Jones kept mum when I recently interviewed her about what storyline was coming up on "True Blood" and on "The Bold and the Beautiful." Fan Jovita Williams said it best, "When the heck is Sam going to ask about those claw marks on Daphne's back?" Because even with the reveal Sunday night that Daphne's a shape shifter, who can turn into a deer, inquiring minds want to know what happened that caused such horrific scars on her back. Sam however is preoccupied with the sexy beauty in other ways right now, so questions are the last thing on his mind. Jones and Sam Trammell who plays Sam Merlotte have such an interesting on screen chemistry. They seem to be toying with each other but the sexual tension just keeps building. So does Daphne's mystery.

Stephen Moyer as Bill and Anna Paquin as Sookie remain the most talked about couple on the hit series. Lorna Berliner was quick to say, "Bill's maker is back! Planning all kinds of trouble for Bill and Sookie. If the plot gets any thicker, I'll explode." Lynn Dougherty shared the same feelings about Bill and Sookie that I keep thinking. "I loved the interaction with Bill and Sookie. Bill seems very worried though." Said Lynn.

And the plot sure thickened. Tonight Sookie and Bill were still in Dallas trying to find the missing vampire, Godric, who is Eric's maker. But along the way Sookie ran into one of her own, a mind reader. Things did heat up a bit when Eric arrived in Dallas and finally we were given his history as a vampire. Lynn Dougherty agreed, "I was glad that we finally learned who made Eric a vampire and how he was made."

Don't count out Jason Stackhouse. Just because the character's not the brightest bulb in the chandelier doesn't mean he's not a lot of fun. Handsome Australian actor Ryan Kwanten portrays the not so bright Jason with almost a comedic twist on the sometimes dramatic storyline he's involved in. When he was in the bathtub and the preacher's wife was giving him scripture and telling him that after his trials and hard times, that he should let her bring joy back into his life, the goofy expression on Kwanten's face was worth gold. It was just as funny as his line in the episode, "Praise His Light!" Seems the preacher's wife is a lot more than just temptation. Surely she's going to play a major role in Jason's future. And what's going to happen when the Reverend finds out about his wife's lustful feelings for one of his parishioners?

While Rutina Wesley who plays Tara did not get very much screen time,  the actress has a real knack for making the most out of her scenes. When she asked her lover Eggs what was between him and MaryAnn, you could tell Tara knew that she was not getting the real story and Wesley has a unique ability to play the heroine with expert ease. Almost all of the fans felt they wanted to see more of her, but also concluded that she'd be a match for MaryAnn once it was revealed who and what MaryAnn truly is.

Though this episode was not as action packed as the previous two, it did help move the story along. Eric played by Alexander Skarsgard finally was fleshed out so to speak to viewers and we are closer to finding out more about MaryAnn, while Lafayette is ripe for future storytelling on the series. Michelle Walker however manages to get what the writers and producers have in mind. She stated, "this is my favorite show. They have changed the show's storylines just enough to keep the people who read the books on their toes."
