When not on the set of True Blood, Kristin Bauer van Straten is keeping the oceans safe for her friends: the whales. Kristin and her husband Abri took time out from visiting family in South Africa to raise awareness on whales and the dangers they face. As ambassadors for IFAW, Kristin and Abri made their way to Hermanus, a town known for its whale watching opportunities. Kristin was excited and pumped for the adventure, while Abri kept a happy and laid back feel to the trip, like most South Africans. The couple are huge supporters of the welfare and safety of animals. In fact, Abri recently released his first solo project, Sunlight and Shadows, and a portion of the proceeds will go to IFAW. The song "Voice" was written in order to help protect the whales. South Africa's whale watching industry is known for ensuring the conservation of whales, and there are only two boat based whale watching set ups allowed in Hermanus. When Kristin and Abri started their whale watching adventure, they saw whales within the first half an hour of their trip. Soon after that, six Southern Rights whales surrounded the boat, trying to get a better look at the boat and the humans observing them. (Whales are very curious creatures.) Kristin and Abri want to show the beauty of whales to the world and explain why it's so important to protect ocean life. In order to do so, they scheduled an interview on a popular all access program that airs on dstv channel MNet and reaches millions of viewers. They will be able to highlight the threats that face whales, such as whaling, ship strikes, and pollution. The Southern Rights are becoming ambassadors for other whales as they can show how wondrous all sea life is. Hopefully, their majestic natures will continue to increase the commerce made through the tourists who come out to see them every year. Kristin and Abri are trying their best to show people all over the world that whale watching is so much better than killing them. To support them help the whales, visit iTunes and purchase Abri's new CD; your money could help save a whale!
