Mehcad Brooks, who plays Benedict "Eggs" Talley in "True Blood," was profusely sweating while out in the scorching sun last Aug. 23 in Waikiki, Hawaii. Brooks enthusiastically competed in an open race triathlon, which covered a distance of 700m swim, 12m bike and a 5k run for the Tag the World Charity Celebrity Triathlon. The event benefited the It Takes An Ohana (ITAO) charity. (In the Hawaiian culture, Ohana is a term for extended family.) They were able to pair more than 30 foster youths with a celebrity and a triathlete as part of the VIP team. For more than 35 years, ITAO has made a difference in the lives of thousands of children in Hawaii by offering resources and information to people in the community who are concerned with protecting the interests of children and youth in out-of-home care. ITAO's wide variety of services include quarterly newsletters, advocacy, information services, trainings, referral services and workshops. Now it looks like Brooks whose character Eggs -- a former homeless guy who never had the chance to feel what it's like to have an Ohana -- is trying to give what his character never had by helping children gain a real Ohana.
