On the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, a rally will be held on the United States National Mall in Washington DC, near the monument. The joined forces of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Greenpeace, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Humane Society International, the Animal Welfare Institute and other non-profits will send a message to our current administration to save the whales. According to IFAW's website: "A massive new threat against whales has just surfaced – a proposal for a ten-year plan to legalize whaling. The plan - developed in secret by Japan, the United States, Germany and other governments – would permit legalized whaling for profit. This proposal threatens to undermine decades of hard-won protections for the whales and permit the killing of whales for profit."The rally will be held on Thursday, April 22nd from 12:30pm to 1:00pm.
