"As actors, we deal with rejection so much more than any other business. So I don't care how much of a genius you are, if you don't have the propensity to be able to get back up every time you get knocked down, then you're not going to survive."In the beginning, it might take some time to find work, during which living conditions might be not so good (Ryan at one point had nothing but a yoga mat in his apartment), and then it takes even longer to be successful. But Ryan has definitely achieved success with his role as the sweet but dumb Jason Stackhouse on True Blood. In addition, he used his hiatus from filming the show to make more movies, like the upcoming Red Hill from Australian director Patrick Hughes. Acting has become an integral part of Ryan's life, for which he feels very grateful. Otherwise he might have been a lawyer or a professional athlete. Now, it seems that he needs acting as an outlet for his creative energy:
"I'm not really comfortable with who I am to be honest. I feel more free to step into the shoes of somebody else. There's always an element of me in there but, you know, if you give me a script and some clothes I can do anything. But, as Ryan, I'm a bit of a recluse."It's great that Ryan has such a funny, well-written character to throw himself into! He clearly loves his job and the opportunity it provides to escape from himself. For more from this tremendous actor, his movies coming soon are Luke Kadan's Don't Fade Away, Legends of the Guardians, Griff the Invisible, and Red Hill.
