Nelsan Ellis (who is best know as the flamboyant, short-order cook on Alan Ball's hit HBO TV vampire series True Blood) recently starred in "The Soloist" alongside Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx which is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. The Soloist is based on the true story of Nathaniel Ayers, Jr. (Jamie Foxx) and Steve Lopez (Robert Downey, Jr.) and how their lives crossed paths one day that changed them in the most profound way. Mr. Lopez was a reporter for the Los Angeles Times who one day sought refuge in the park from the stress of work and found himself drawn to the sounds of a violin playing. As he walked to find the source of the music he found a homeless man, Nathaniel Ayers, Jr., playing with two missing strings. When he questioned Nathaniel about his music, Steve was told that he attended the prestigious music school Julliard. Mr. Lopez decided to write a piece on Nathaniel and to unravel the mystery of how a musical prodigy could end up being one of the countless souls that find themselves living on the streets of Los Angeles, homeless. A truly touching film that looks into the depth of human nature and the agony and sorrow that mental illness plagues not only the individual but everyone else around them. The DVD is available on amazon.com for $16.99 and the Blu-ray is $26.99. You can purchase both on amazon by clicking the link below.
