Denis O'Hare Raises Money For Homeless LGBT Teens
The Vampire King of Mississippi is feeding the children rather than eating them. How cool is that? Broadway veteran and Tony award winning actor, Denis O'Hare (Russell Edgington), raised more than $100,000 for homeless LGBT teens when he hosted more than 120 supporters at the Ali Forney Center's (AFC) Fall dinner - A Place at the Table - on Thursday, October 7. Celebrities Ally Sheedy, Mike Ruiz, and others joined O'Hare at this special fund-raising event created to provide facilities, free medical care, HIV testing, job training and placement, computer access, and mental health services to homeless LGBT teens in Chelsea and Brooklyn. The AFC also awarded its first Advocate Awards to Mitchell Gold, Joe Jervis, and Ksen Pallegedara. After a wonderful dinner catered by The Upper Crust, attendees enjoyed both a live and silent auction and a performance by jazz great Natalie Douglas.
AFC's commitment to support LGBT youth began in June 2002. AFC provides a safe, nurturing environment for troubled teens offering a helping hand while they put their lives back together.
