Marshall Allman, who plays Sam Merlotte's brother Tommy Mickens on True Blood, has had several projects on the go during his hiatus from the show.  One project he is set to start filming November 29th is the movie 'Sugar' co-starring Shenae Grimes (90210) and Alex Meraz (The Twilight series).  The movie, directed by Rotimi Rainwater, centers around a group of homeless kids trying to survive on the streets of Hollywood.  The cast and crew of the film have teamed up with My Friends Place, the most frequently visited drop-in resource center for youth in Southern California, to help raise awareness of the problem of homeless youth. Rainwater spent six months in his youth living out of his car so when it came time to decide the topic of his first feature film, he knew he had the opportunity to make a difference.  He is looking forward to speaking for these disadvantaged youth who cannot speak for themselves.

How You Can Help

Funding for the film was primarily received by investors, however there is still a $50,000 budget shortfall.  The group has teamed up with kickstarter.com to help raise the additional funds for filming and to also raise funds for My Friends Place.  In order to help raise the money, they are offering several incentives for people who make donations.  Here is a breakdown of some of the goodies you can get.
