Anna Paquin Talks About True Blood, The Romantics & Weddings

Sookie Stackhouse, True Blood, Anna PaquinThough the current season of True Blood ends on September 12, we'll still be able to see Anna Paquin in other works of hers, including one where she dons a wedding dress. Anna's upcoming project, The Romantics, is set to be released later this year and in it, she plays Lila, a young bride to be. Lila's and her fiance's friends from college come to the wedding, and of course a lot of mayhem ensues. When Anna described Lila, she described her as very controlling and said that Lila wants what she wants. Lila is very different from both Sookie Stackhouse and Anna herself. That's one of the reasons that Anna isn't worried about typecasting. She deliberately chooses characters to portray who are different. Anna also said,
"I don't suffer from being one of those people who's so exceptionally — how do I put this nicely — model-like looking that my face will look exactly the same no matter how you dress me. I find that pretty easily if you restyle it, I look different."
Anna's abilities to change her appearance in small, simple ways also helps to create the contrast between the characters she's played. It also has given her the chance to really discover her own boundaries and how they differ from the boundaries her characters have. Anna admits to not having many boundaries as an actress because she knows that at the end of the day, she's just playing someone other than herself. When the day's work is done and the costumes and makeup are off, Anna can just be herself rather than a sassy waitress who happens to be telepathic or a bride-to-be who stole her groom from her best friend.
