Ebony's 65th Anniversary Party
True Blood's Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton) was among the myriad of shining stars and legends at Ebony's 65th Anniversary party on October 28, 2010. The event was held in Los Angeles, at the gorgeous home of designer Michael Smith. The goals of the evening were to celebrate 65 years of Ebony magazine, while commemorating all who have helped or been featured throughout the years, and to introduce the magazine's new Editor-in-Chief, Amy DuBois Barnett. DJ Kiss of New York provided the beats, and Wolfgang Puck provided the eats. The world-famous chef offered "three courses including a medley of beef and salmon over mashed potatoes and a melt-in-your-mouth coconut cake". Yum!Cuttin' a Rug
DJ Kiss got the party started with "The Humpty Dance", and mixed it up by playing hits from the last 65 years, including some by Parliament, Stevie Wonder, and Beyoncé. One of the evening's highlights was actor/comedian Robert Townsend "Doin Da Butt" with Johnson Publishing Company CEO Desiree Rogers. Classic! Speaking of classics, the great Diahann Carroll was presented with an Icon Award by Ebony's Chairman, Linda Johnson Rice. Carroll was featured on the magazine's November 1979 cover -- and she still looks flawless! With such legends as Samuel L. Jackson, Vanessa Williams, and Tony Award winner Viola Davis (pictured above with Wesley) in attendance, it truly must have been a grand affair. Here's to our Rutina Wesley gracing the cover of Ebony someday! We wish you all the best! Do you have a favorite icon? Someone you've admired your whole life?
