Ryan Kwanten Talks True Blood, Legend of the Guardians and Upcoming Projects

Ryan Kwanten Chats about True Blood, Voicing an Owl and Upcoming Movies

Ryan Kwanten filming Legend of the GuardiansFans of True Blood are used to hearing Ryan Kwanten talk like a good old boy from down south. It can be hard to reconcile that with his heavy Australian accent which he gets to use in his newest film 'Legend of the Guardians'. During Press Day for the film, Kwanten and the other actors sat down for interviews to talk about the movie and upcoming projects.

Legend of the Guardians

Kwanten's latest role is playing Kludd, a young owlette who makes some wrong choices in 'Legends of the Guardians'. The film is based on a series of books called Guardians of Ga'Hooleby author Kathryn Lasky. Kwanten was initially approached about reading for the role of Soren, which would later go to Jim Sturgess, but felt a deeper connection to Kludd. Kwanten says that this movie is not your typical family movie saying:
"I think a lot of animated films play such a rosy picture of the world, and this was saying, "Look, bad things do happen in life. It's how you choose to deal with those things that defines who you are." My character chooses to go a far darker route than what you probably should. Soren, on the other hand, chooses to really embrace his destiny and follow the right path."
The film was made over a period of two and a half years with Kwanten working his filming around his True Blood role. He says that having the filming stretched out over such a long period of time made it easier to grow and change the character. While the brothers in the film start out close as a family, it is the subtle changes that Kwanten embraced. He felt it was important to show the story of the brothers growing up so that you had a chance to emotionally connect with the characters. One of the benefits of the role was that Kwanten was able to speak without working on his accent. When he initially started to work in Los Angeles he only wanted to do characters with an American accent, so that he could get himself established. Kwanten says that he hopes that after watching the film, it has a lasting effect and people are able to assess their own lives and the choices they have made. Since this movie is based on the first three books in the series and there are 12 more, there is definitely a chance of a sequel and Kwanten is looking forward to exploring the character and story further.

True Blood

Season 3 of True Blood recently finished up and we left off with Kwanten's character Jason Stackhouse taking over to help the residents of Hot Shot and Sookie disappearing with Claudine, among other cliff hangers. Kwantendid not give much away about what we can expect to see in Season 4, but he did say that he is excited to see where the writers take the story. He talks about how he never quite knows how a story is going to play out saying:
"There hasn't been anything that has not surprised me, in every episode. Every single scene has played out differently than where I thought it was going to go, and that's a good thing to be constantly surprised. I like to pride myself on being able to guess where things are going, and I've never been able to do that with my character."
He does reveal that he will start shooting Season 4 in late November.

Upcoming Projects

Kwanten recently finished filming 'Knights of Badassdom'with Steve Zahn and Peter Dinklage. He describes the film as a "comedy mixed with horror" film. In the film Kwanten'scharacter finds out that his girlfriend cheated on him and he goes into a depression. In order to help pull him out of that, his friends kidnap him and force him into a live role playing game. Eventually the "role" becomes real and he is forced to get involved. Kwanten's film 'Griff The Invisible'recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and in that film he plays a sociophobic superhero. By day he can't leave the house, but by night he believes he is saving the world. In November his film 'Red Hill', described as a revenge western, releases in theaters. The film, costarring Steve Bisley and Tommy Lewis, centers on a young policeman (Kwanten) who works in a small town police department that has come under siege from an escaped convict. Read Our Exclusive Twitter Interview with Kristin Bauer Van Straten

Kristin Bauer, Abri Van Straten, Pam, True Blood On September 14th, 2010, we interviewed True Blood's queen of fashion and snark, Kristin Bauer Van Straten, via Twitter. There were misspellings aplenty and the constraints of the 140-character limit, but it was a great new experience that gave thousands of followers a chance to witness the live interview with this wonderfully kind actress as she talked about her trip to South Africa, her love of animals, her involvement with The Amanda Foundation, and much more. TBN.com: Tonight we're pleased to be hosting the world's first Twitterview with #TrueBlood's Pam, Kristin Bauer van Straten! Kristin is here to support The Amanda Foundation. Kristin: YES I AM! TBN.com: Hi Kristin, thanks for tweeting with us tonight! Kristin: HELLO! TBN.com: We hear you were in Africa last week, what was that like? Kristin: Africa was stunning. Very different & very misunderstood by us Westerners. I will soon have some photos up on my site. TBN.com: We can't wait to see the photos! Kristin: I am working with IFAW in Africa to try and stem the animal slaughter, poaching, ivory trade, and what I am researching is interesting. All of these environmental things are very connected to the economy. People do awful things at times because they don't know better or it's the only job they have—I fell in love with Africa for its wildness and want to see what could be done to keep it wild and beautiful. TBN.com: Where did you go in Africa? Kristin: We were in Cape Town, Stellenbosch (the wine lands), and then up the harden route to Plettenberg Bay. We stayed with family. Plett is unreal. TBN.com: How exciting! Was it your first trip there? Kristin: We went to an elephant orphan sanctuary. And on a Southern Right whale watch and saw baboons in the yard! And yes, it was my first trip there. I had to meet my in-laws for the first time! I had 55 family at my wedding and Abri had one friend. It was just too far for them all. TBN.com: Elephants are so incredible. They are so intelligent and have deep emotions. We're very excited to hear that you'll be informing us more about the poaching situation. Kristin: Yes when I figure out what we can all do about poaching I will speak up! I hate to tell people of bad news without something they can do. TBN.com: When you do, we'll cover the story for all our readers. Kristin: Great! Thanks for covering it! We really can change things together. Alone and separate we're doomed I think. Amazing how we have this technology that can unite us for good. Look what the Cove guys have done! 1.7 million signatures to Japan to stop slaughtering dolphins! TBN.com: Yes, very inspiring! For those interested in signing the petition against dolphin hunting: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/724/210/624/ So you got to meet all of Abri's family. That sounds great! Kristin: It was wonderful. I understand him even better now. It really fills in so many gaps. TBN.com: Let's get to why you are here tonight. The Amanda Foundation. What does the foundation do exactly? Kristin: Ok…Amanda Foundation. Run by Teri Austin, who was on Seinfeld and Knots Landing, btw. TBN.com: I didn't realize that! How wonderful of her to use her talents to help animals! Kristin: Yes! Teri is amazing! It is really her calling. Tireless efforts and it makes her happy to save lives from the pound. TBN.com: So they do animal rescues? Saving abandoned pets? Kristin: Yes! Teri saves them from any and all situations, gives them vet care, food, shelter, walks, love, and will keep them their entire lives until they get a great home. Not just any home. I've known Teri for 15 years. A GREAT woman! She's saved 1000s and still remembers every single name of every single one. TBN.com: Holy moly! I can hardly remember my own name some days! And I hear they have a spay program as well, for strays? Kristin: She has a spay and neuter mobile hospital they take to a different neighborhood over 300 days a year and give people vet care who can't afford it. It also stems the tide of pet overpopulation. I've seen the van. It's amazing. Designed by Teri. She told me she'd rather have this van than a Ferrari! TBN.com: Have you been involved with them for long? Kristin: I have known them for 15 years. I do anything I can think of for them. In this economy and with so many disasters overseas, many local charities are closing or down 70% in donations!!! I feel we need to remember to take care of those here too! TBN.com: And how did you first get started with them? Kristin: I adopted a cat when I first moved here. Then I took a friend there years later and reconnected with Teri. We became friends. We bonded over our love of the animals. TBN.com: Can you tell us about some of your events? When you've worked with them? Kristin: We did an event last year, "True Blood Hounds" on Rodeo in Beverly Hills. Michelle Forbes, Tara Buck, Rutina and Mariana (@Klavenofarmgirl) came. Chow too! It was very cool of everyone. Then we also had one recently. A fashion show I did at the Pacific Design center. I walked a very cute dog who was dressed up down the runway. TBN.com: Did you get your adorable dogs from The Amanda Foundation? Kristin: I got my two dogs now from all over. One from a bad shelter here. My rottie mix. Then my other guy—I was fostering a litter and the rottie and the little lab/pit/jindo mix stayed! They just find me from all over. I am so lucky! Now I am down to two dogs. Soon I bet another will find us. I really miss my cat, who I had found. He was awesome. TBN.com: You're so sweet to help all those fur folks! Kristin: It really is so rewarding to rescue. It's really a very selfish endeavor! I can't imagine life without them! They just love me no matter what. Pimples. Money, no money. Fat, thin…They just love us. TBN.com: And you've got a very special item. You're auctioning off for the proceeds to go to them? Kristin: YES!!! I did a drawing of Alex Skarsgard! AND we both signed it!! ALL proceeds go to the Amanda Foundation. Alexander Skarsgard, Eric Northman, True BloodTBN.com: This is all very exciting, and you're going to be doing more cast drawings to benefit Amanda Foundation? Kristin: Who should I draw next? TBN.com: I think a sexy Stephen Moyer might go over well… Kristin: Also we have t-shirts, don't we? TBN.com: We will very soon! Maybe next week :) Kristin: Yes! Ok! A sexy Stephen Moyer sounds great!!! Stephen said he'd love for me to draw him! TBN.com: Heck, I might have to bid on that ;) Kristin: And yes, I think I will just do one cast after the other! They're all very drawable! TBN.com: They are all yummy. That's why our site's motto is: Team True Blood. Why choose? Kristin: Yes, why choose?! Thanks SO MUCH for your help on this! And thanks to all you folks bidding and tuning in, too! And thanks to Abri who just brought me snacks :) TBN.com: How wonderful for the fans and The Amanda Foundation, what a rare opportunity! Can you tell us a bit about getting Alex involved? About posing etc.? Kristin: First I asked him if he'd be up for it and of course he said yes! Then I found a photo of Alex online that I loved as he looks like an old movie star in it, a la James Dean. I then finished it and brought it to him to see. He said, "You're good." :) TBN.com: A man of understatement ;) You're great! Kristin: Alex is a truly great guy. He also did a Tails for Whales photo, and supports Janet Casdawan's necklaces for whales for IFAW. He's truly sweet. It's an amazing group of people that make up True Blood. TBN.com: Is Alex an animal lover too, then? Kristin: I don't think Alex's as crazy as I am about fur! But I think he's a sweet man who wants to help. Wow. I really cant ype!...I eman, type. I mean…I mean type. TBN.com: You're doing fine, everyone on Twitter speaks typo! Right, guys? Kristin: Thank God. I never took typing in high school. The ONE thing I would still be using. TBN.com: And you've both autographed the drawing? Kristin: YES, we both autographed it. Alex even added the little Swedish sign, for the soccer team? Rugby?....It's Swedish anyway! BTW, sorry all you others that will get 1 billion tweets from me today. I don't normally talk on and on like this anyone but Abri. TBN.com: We'll be giving out the web address for the auction in a few, folks :) Kristin: GREAT! I can't tell you how great this rescue and so many are. They are doing the work we want done but are too busy doing our own lives. We can help them to help easily. Are we doing the prints, too, today or later? TBN.com: Later. @BauervanStraten just loves leaking little tidbits to whet your appetites, guys. Yes, it's true, there is more yummy Alex stuff to come! So it sounds like charity work is a family thing for you. Your husband, Abri (who looks like a Norse GOD, BTW) cut a CD and is selling it to benefit the whales? Kristin: LOLOL! Weeeellll….that might just beeee….MY HUSBAND!!! And for the rest of this week, I will send an autographed Pam photo with Abri's CD "Sunlight and Shadows" through Amazon. You can hear it on www.abrivanstraten.com He wrote "Monet" for me!!! TBN.com: You are SO lucky! What got him involved with whales? Kristin: I got him involved with IFAW and whales. Then he wrote the song "Voices" off this new CD and gave it to them. We donate proceeds. TBN.com: What kind of music does he play? Kristin: His music is like James Taylor, Sting, Chris Rea…classical guitar and a deep sexy South African voice! I heard "Rain" off his last CD and tracked him down and asked him out! I LOVE his music. It's very romantic and soothing. TBN.com: You go! Does he have any performances scheduled in the near future? Kristin: Yes, I will let you all know when Abri plays out soon. Looks like he'll be playing EyeCon in Orlando in November. TBN.com: We'll retweet them! :) And cover them at EyeCon, of course. So back to the CD. Where can a fan get a copy? Kristin: Amazon.com—Abri van Straten "Sunlight and Shadows" TBN.com: Click through TrueBloodNet.com to Amazon to help us out! Kristin: I better go soon. Gotta walk those dogs and be up early to talk to a radio station in Milwaukee. I can do an autograph with each CD for the rest of this week. Then we'll resume when I am back in the US in a month. TBN.com: Ok, sorry this went longer than expected. Kristin: IT'S BEEN FUN!!! TBN.com: We just can't let you go without saying how great Pam has been this season! Kristin: THANK YOU!!! You guys rock! Anything else you want to ask before I go? Thanks so much for so much help! TBN.com: It's really been our pleasure. Helping animals is a true love of ours. Thank you so very much for your time tonight. Kristin: My pleasure too! You are so awesome! THANK YOU!!! TBN.com: *blushes* You da bomb, lady. Very brave to do the 1st Twitterview AND help all the creatures of the world. So that's it folks, be sure to bid early and bid often on Kristin's beautiful drawing of the equally beautiful Alex and help out The Amanda Foundation and a lot of very sweet puppies and kittens! Joe Manganiello and Ryan Kwanten Give Out Dating Advice

Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse in True BloodWhat's better than perfect dating advice, maybe if that advice is coming from True Blood's hot hunks Joe Manganiello and Ryan Kwanten.  In a recent interview both men give their outlook on dating and tips for leading ladies in their lives.

How to tear in to Joe's heart

Joe Manganiello feels it is very important to let the man lead and even though some it may sound old fashion or traditional, a woman should let the man open the doors for her and pay for dinner.  When it comes to being physical,  Manganiello says to post pone it as long as possible in order to prove just how much the man likes the woman. Then came the subject that viewers have seen Joe Manganiello play all season on the show True Blood where his character is battling his ex girlfriend, Debbie.
"Move on. People just keep bouncing off their exes and wasting each other's time. If you go back, you'll be dealing with the same stuff that drove you apart in the first place."

Be Ryan's mystery woman

Ryan Kwanten spoke on some very interesting points on ways that women should remain mysterious to men. Many women will begin a relationship where they want to express to much of themselves and not leave anything for the man to discover. Also many woman become to emotional and often say the "I love you's" way too soon.
"I like exploring the mystery of a relationship instead of laying it all out on the table in the beginning."
Both guys gave great advice to steal their hearts! Good luck ladies! Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com — Three Hunks Do the Rules Photo credit: Screen caps HBO

True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten Opens Up About Legend of the Guardians

Kwanten Interviewed About New Film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Ryan Kwanten voicing the character Kludd in "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole."Aussie Actor Ryan Kwanten, True Blood's Jason Stackhouse, recently talked to Teen Hollywood about his new animated film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, which opened in second place at the box office. In the film, Kwanten gives voice to the character Kludd, one of the warring owl brothers, which the film based on the popular novels by Katryn Lasky centers around. Kludd is the older of the two siblings who Kwanten says, suffers from OSS (Older Sibling Syndrome) the need to be overly-ambitious, which allows him to be persuaded to the dark side. When asked if he saw an emotional comparison between Jason Stackhouse and Kludd, Kwanten responded,
I think there's a vulnerability to them both and an innocence but I think Kludd has more willpower and perhaps more mental capacity. [laughter]
The film took 3 years to complete, and for Kwanten was recorded during his breaks from True Blood. He says it was a nice escape from Jason Stackhouse, who he loves playing but is the last thing he wants to dive into when not shooting. Although the film is animated, Kwanten revealed during the interview that he did not watch much animated TV as a kid.
It was three boys at home and we were kicked out of the house pretty much at any moment. It was easier for us to be dealt with outside the house than inside. So we were forced to use our imaginations and play outside.
Directed by Zack Synders (300) and also starring Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe), Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is in theaters now. Source: TeenHollywood.com — Ryan Kwanten and Jim Sturgess are a "Hoot"! (Photo Credit: Warner Bros.)

Video: Rutina Wesley of True Blood dishes on being 17

Video:  Rutina Wesley on being 17 and her funkadelic prom!

Most people look back at their senior prom as one of the highlights of their highschool experience.  On MTV's show '17 Again' actress Rutina Wesley (Tara) of True Blood talks about her experience going to prom her junior year with her good friend Adam. They chose to go all out 70's and  Ms. Wesley clearly lived up to their chosen theme of the night.
"I had these green tights with fuchsia platforms, and afro puffs with bobby pins with pearls on the end and a zig zag part I thought I was real cute!"
She did in fact look very retro.  Ms. Wesley goes on to recount how unique her look was even then and her friends acknowledge that in a sea of tuxedos and formal dresses Ms. Wesley and her date Adam stood out.  The blast from the past didn't end there as she recounts that they danced on the strip to 'Stayin' Alive'.  Clearly Ms. Wesley's flare for unique looks began early and hopefully we'll be seeing more of her fashion sense in Season 4 of True Blood.

How the True Blood Cast Perfect Their Southern Accents

Liz Himelstein, Dialect Coach Extraordinaire, Reveals the Secrets Behind the True Blood Accent

Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton, Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse on HBO red carpetTrue Blood cast members hail from places all around the world, not that you can tell from their perfect Southern accents thanks to Liz Himelstein their dialect coach. Recently, Himelstein, who has 20 years experience in film and theater under her belt, opened up to CNN about how the cast manages to sound perfectly at home in Bon Temps. In the interview, Himelstein revealed she had Stephen Moyer, True Blood's Bill,  listen to propriety recordings of older men from the South to help him develop the antiquated Southern drawl women have fallen in love with. Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie, listened to poetry from the South. According to Himelstein, Paquin and Moyer took to their accents for the show quickly. For the show's pilot, Himelstein was impressed with the cast, who she says had fun working on their accents together. The secret to how the cast manages to keep their accents going? Alan Ball, creator of the show, who was born in Georgia. Ball writes in Southern dialect, which helps give the cast an idea of how they should sound. According to Himelstein, reading Ball's writing is like reading a piece of music, if you follow his rhythm, you won't get lost. Stephen Moyer Describes True Blood Nudity as Part of the Job

Stephen Moyer on Nudity

Stephen Moyer portraying Bill ComptonStephen Moyer was interviewed by Metro.co.uk about his work as Bill Compton on True Blood. He discussed several things, including dating and then marrying costar Anna Paquin, sex scenes on True Blood, and an unfortunate comment he made about Robert Pattinson that was picked up by media sources that spread around like wildfire. Stephen said that he and Anna kept their relationship secret for a long time to prevent the drama that could have occurred if they had broken up and decided they hated each other. Thankfully, of course, that didn't happen and the couple is happily married now. Of course, marriage is something that Stephen didn't step into lightly. First, he talked to a friend of his who made Anna's engagement ring for him. Then, in a simple set up, Stephen proposed. He says he proposed for several reasons:
It got to the point where you are calling somebody that you intend to stay with for the rest of your life your 'girlfriend'. That's what I've called everybody I've ever been with – and that's not to say that those relationships weren't important, because they were, I've got two amazing kids. But it felt ridiculous to call the person that you really are going to spend the rest of your life with your 'girlfriend'. I felt she should have a title so I could joke and say 'the missus', make lots of wife gags.
It probably also makes working simpler when an actor is doing sex scenes with someone they really know. Stephen says that nudity is just "part and parcel" of his job and it's really not as glamorous as it appears to be on True Blood. In order to look their best for sex scenes, the cast of True Blood works out and they don't eat before a scene is shot. For Stephen, if a sex scene is shot after lunch, it's a nightmare because all he thinks about after filming a sex scene is food. And not all sex scenes are made the same. Some of the scenes do have the cast and crew talking to each other before they're ever filmed. Keeping up the conversation reminds everyone that sex scenes are a job, not real life. One example is a scene between Bill and Sookie from the third season that is very provocative and had people questioning whether or not the scene was consensual. Stephen talked with his fellow cast and crew-mates to make sure that everyone knew what was going on. Stephen also commented on paparazzi and an unfortunate comment he made about Robert Pattinson. The comment referred to Pattinson's character Edward Cullen and called him "the diet coke of vampires" among other things. Stephen said that he was asked this one day while he was trying to go somewhere with his daughter and a paparazzi wouldn't leave him alone, so he made the comment off the cuff. He continued, saying that he's never seen Twilight and only knows a few things about it. Paparazzi can be annoying, but Stephen takes them all in stride. He's grateful that anyone even cares enough about him to want to take pictures of him doing menial tasks. After all, Stephen also claims to have the best job in the world, so he'll take the attention happily. SOURCE: Metro.co.uk — True Blood's Stephen Moyer: Nudity is Part and Parcel of My Job

Sesame Street turns True Blood into True Mud

Sesame Street will Parody Top Adult Cable Show

When Sesame Street starts it's 41st season on September 27, 2010 it will include a parody of the opening scene, which takes place in Merlotte's Bar & Grill,  in season 1 of HBO's True Blood. It starts with a redone version of the show's opening musical sequence showing children stomping around in mud interspersed with pictures of Oscar the Grouch.  It then transitions to a scene, complete with muppet versions of  cook Lafayette Reynold, waitress Sookie Stackhouse, lightning fast Bill Compton and Sheriff Bud Dearborn, that focuses on "Bill" badly in need of True Mud. These southern accented characters use the situation to both speculate if "Bill" is a Grouch and to teach rhyming by not bringing "Bill" what he asked for, instead they bring him things that have words that rhyme with mud. We can only wonder if Alan Ball has a cross over is in the works for season 4. Can't you just see the Count in the bottom left of the screen counting each episodes deaths? Or maybe Oscar popping out of the Dumpster at Merlotte's when Arlene takes out the trash? SOURCE: http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com - 'True Blood' Sesame Street parody

Denis O'Hare completes the Hare and Tortoise Race

Denis Participates in the Hare and Tortoise Race

Denis O'Hare running down a street.Denis O'Hare on September 11, participated in an 8K charity race that his father started in memory of his mother who died of ovarian cancer.  The race  called the Hare and Tortoise 8K run/walk uses the donations to help educate the community about ovarian cancer and helps pay for medical testing for woman in the area.

The Race

During the race, in efforts to raise even more money, there was a silent auction. One of the items that was auctioned was a hand stitched fabric portrait of Russell Edgington which was made by Denis O'hare's cousin Judy.  In the end, his sister ended up winning the bid of the portrait of him. This way they could "you know...keep it in the family."

True Blood Stew

[caption id="attachment_15609" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Theo Alexander as Talbot in True Blood Season 3 Episode 2"]Theo Alexander, True Blood, Talbot[/caption] Chilled carbonated blood? One of the many treats on offer at the King of Mississippi's table in True Blood episode 2 of Season 3, but not for me, thank you. There are many other more pleasing methods of getting some blood in one's diet, dear Talbot. Though I praise your incorporation of rose petals in the blood bisque and the blood gelato certainly made me smile, I am more of a traditionalist of sorts. The French classic coq au vin is particularly delightful when the sauce is deepened with blood. Though not documented until the 20th century legends speak of the dish being served to Julius Ceasar. True or not it is much more interesting to think of the royal cook, being handed a tough old cock by the bitter and recently conquered Gauls, working to make it palatable by creating this slow cooking, blood laced stew. Boar, a hearty game meat that I am sure older True Blood vampires such as Russell and Eric have seen many a time roasting on the hearth or on a spit, makes a mean stew with blood as an ingredient. Dating back to medieval peasant tables Black Pudding (in France Boudin Noir - I just love that name), a sausage made of pig's blood and grains and spices, still finds it's way to the breakfast plate in much of the British Isles. It has its place on the tables of many other countries including Germany, Poland and Sweden (blodpudding) which also has blood pancakes and a blood soup - svartsoppa. If the real thing does not entice you I will share my favourite cocktail which has its own unique history - though not one so ancient. As the elders of the vampiric goth scene in New York City tell it: dating back only to the mid 1990s the Blood Bath was the inspiration of a creative bartender at the infamous goth club Mother in New York. It is comprised of a hearty red wine, 1/2 shot of chambord and a splash of cranberry served chilled. I have also had it with a splash of soda but have taken to having it without. So here's to the incorporation of the red nectar in your diet  - whether it be the real item or in name alone. Considering the long history of it in the human diet it seems vampirism is not so far from humanity after all. Photo credit: HBO, screencap: James

Magazine Retracts Interview with True Blood Star

Anna Paquin Interview in Gothic Magazine Fake

True Blood star Anna Paquin.Fans love to interact with the cast of True Blood and are always excited to hear about the latest one to join Twitter, Facebook, or MySpace, however, there are people who like to impersonate celebrities and cause a lot of trouble. Recently Gothic Magazine had to post a retraction notice in regards to a story they posted about Anna Paquin and her alleged MySpace account. Anna is known for her amazing portrayal of Sookie Stackhouse in three seasons (and upcoming 4th)of the HBO series True Blood. It seems an interview written in their magazine (Issue 31), was not authentic. The interview was conducted via e-mail to a listed "official" Anna Paquin MySpace page. The information provided led the author and the magazine to believe they were in contact with Anna. However, this was not the case. Representatives for Anna have denied her participation and involvement in the interview and any connection with he "official" MySpace page. In fact, the MySpace page referenced in the article has been removed. Goth Magazine should be commended though for apologizing not only to Anna for the mistake, but also to the fans of the magazine. It was never their intention to publish anything that wasn't absolutely authentic. The magazine is dedicated to gothic beauty, female empowerment, and as we've all seen, honesty to their readers. So fans, Anna may have an Oscar, but no MySpace account! Source: www.gothicbeauty.com — Retraction Notice (Photo Credit: HBO, Inc)

Ask Dr. L -- All in the Family

For a small fortune (and the promise of a steady supply of medicinal quality V) TrueBloodNet.com has gotten Dr. L to agree to answer your supernatural medical questions. Ask Dr. L is written by Dr. L (any resemblance to any characters living, dead or undead is purely coincidental), also known as Doctor to the Supernaturals, and was founded by her mother, Philine Paullips. It is the most popular and widely syndicated supernatural medical advice column in this world — or any other. Known for its uncommon nonsense and immortal, or just darn old, perspective. September 20, 2010 So Dr. L, I'm kinda confused by the whole "making" a vampire thing or what did they call them, "prodginey?"  Eric even said, "the only vampire you can trust is the one you made."   Is it vampire law or just the way vampires work that they can only make one vampire?  Like can Bill make another vampires now that he has Jessica?  If Jessica were to die can he make another?  Franklin also mentioned making Tara his bride, is the bride the same as a child?  Lots of weird relationships going on when it comes to the fangs. -Genalogical Gary Dear GG, First of all, did you mean "progeny"? Because for the life of me, I can't figure out what a "prodginey" is... Sheesh! OK, now that we've had a spelling lesson, let me address your question. I personally feel this idea of vampires only being able to make one evil spawn of themselves is just to lull humans into feeling safer than they really are. In fact, I can see no reason that these foul creatures could not turn as many people as they had the opportunity to. I think they just don't do it very often, because the unlucky folks they bite are just a food source to them, so they suck them dry and let them die. Ooooohhhh! I made a rhyme! I am happy you brought up dear Tara. Such a beautiful girl, and a veritable punching bag for weird male partners! Poor girl. I wish she'd come see me for some much needed counseling, and perhaps a little of my Kung Fu training as well. Tara dear, if you're reading this, call me. Oh, and no, a bride is not the same as a child- unless she is a child bride- and that cracks open doors I have no intention of going through...

Hey Dr. L, Okay so seeing Tommy changing into a dog for dog fighting, although awful, really got me thinking:  What other types of things do shifters do to be profitable?  Like is everything we see at a zoo a shift?  Do shifters run Sea World and are the dolphins really shifters and that's why they can do all those cool tricks?  The circus lions?  Shifters too?  I mean if not, you and I should cash in on this and work with all the shifters in the land.  Can you imagine the success? -Seeing Dollar Signs Dear Dollar Sign, I wonder just what you smoked or ingested before you asked me a question such as this. Did you get your hands on some illegal "V"? First of all, there isn't a snowball's chance in Tahiti that "you and I" will ever cash in on anything together. As for real animals vs shifters, the less you and the rest of humanity know, the better. I fear these creatures are exploited enough, without the likes of Seeing Dollar Signs getting involved. The nerve!!  Get a job- I hear McD's is hiring...

Dr. Ludwig, Do you know whether or not the military accepts supernaturals into their ranks? I know that the supernaturals have skills and abilities that I'm sure can make the military an effective fighting force. But, I also know that some of the supernaturals can be rather unstable. Do you know the official stance? Thank you ma'am, Recruit Valesquez Hello, young Recruit, This is quite an interesting query. As you may know, I am involved in many highly sensitive government projects, including the military. So I am not at liberty to fully answer your question. But I will say this much, our military deserves our respect, our support, our highest regard, and super top quality rations, such as Kibbles N Bits and raw meat...

Whas'up D to the R to the L, So my question goes a little something like this: What do the vampers do for Halloween? Like to me, it would seem like a little cliché for them to be outs and abouts. They are like Halloween all year round, wouldn't it be a bit much for them to be all like Gothic on the one day a year its social acceptable and all that jazz? It'd be like putting chocolate syrup on a chocolate ice cream. Too much of a good thing yo. Maybe vampers dress up like normal humans? That would High-Lair-E-Us. -Steve Steve, I'd like to offer you a courtesy consult with me to do a CAT scan to determine whether you actually have two brain cells to rub together. Trust me when I tell you, this is an offer not to be declined, as it would cost thousands of dollars. The trade off would be that I have total use of the results to use in my teaching, as proof that humans CAN live without a brain... As for vampires and Halloween, that is pretty much any and every day for them, what with the blood running out of their eyes, no breath, no heartbeat, ice cold skin, and so on. So yes, their trying to pass themselves off as "normal" humans would be a real scream. But what is wrong with chocolate syrup on chocolate ice cream?

Be sure to Submit your questions in the Comments Section below and if you're unlucky enough Dr. L may choose to answer your question (and send you a bill.. how does she find us? Does she use mail Owls?)! To view past Dr. L words of wisdom just do a search on Dr. L in the box in the upper left of the page. Disclaimer: These answers are provided for entertainment purposes only and should not be followed by ordinary humans. This column is a parody of the Gothic fantasy series, True Blood, and as such, is presented here for your amusement. Ask Dr. L and the various writers that contribute to it, have no relationship/affiliation to HBO, True Blood, or any of the cast or crew of said nor any relation to Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels.

True Blood's Rutina Wesley on MTV's 'When I was 17'

Rutina Wesley got her start in Fame

Rutina Wesley True Blood Tara Thornton MTV Before Rutina Wesley got the part of Tara Thornton on HBO's True Blood, she was strutting her stuff on stage at the prestigious performing arts school, the  Las Vegas Academy. Wesley, who was the daughter of a showgirl and a tapdancer, grew up in Las Vegas and before she starred in the 2007 dance film "How She Move", she was performing in the Academy's production of Fame. Rutina recalls,
"What I love about 'Fame' is it's sort of like I was living 'Fame.' I was going to a performing-arts high school, [and] I knew the hard work it took to be there. The auditions were brutal for that show, I remember I had to dance, sing and act, and it was really tough."
Landing the part allowed her to have her first taste of actual fame and she knew she was born to perform.
"The theater at my school was awesome," she laughed. "It was a 1,400-seat auditorium, so, being in that auditorium at 17, and having, like 1,400 people cheer for you was, like, one of the most amazing feelings that I've ever felt, energy-wise. It just felt right."

True Blood Stars at Boardwalk Empire HBO Premiere

Now that Season 3 of True Blood has ended and the cast has a little time to relax before Season 4 begins shooting, they spend some time enjoying various red carpets and premieres. Music to Vamp By: An Interview With Gary Calamar

A picture of Gary Calamar.Gary Calamar is the music supervisor for HBO's hit series True Blood. In an interview with IFC, Gary explained that the specific songs and music are a delicate balance when chosen for an episode, or scene location. For example, tunes for Merlotte's is "upbeat bar music, rockabilly, southern rock". For the most part, Gary says the music for True Blood "has sort of a dark undercurrent to it like a lot of New Orleans blues seems to have. Those classics - Slim Harpo, Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf - those are what really kind of speak to me as the sound of Bon Temps." Asked if it was true that show creator Alan Ball said he did not want opera music in a vampire show, Gary could not confirm it. However, Alan did tell him he wanted non-traditional music without the overly dramatic type heard in previous vampire movies. Actually, Alan found Jace Everett's "Bad Things" to use as the theme music and Gary said they got lucky with it. During a writing break, Alan found it on iTunes. "We all liked it but we all kind of thought that we would eventually find the one. But the more we placed other songs against it we realized that it actually was the one. It was perfect and it had just that right combination of menace, romance, sexiness, and humor to it." Every episode of True Blood is named after a song. According to Gary, this is difficult due to budget concerns. Some licensing can be too expensive or just not available. In a few cases, the episode titles were changed because the song didn't work out as planned. But, as music supervisor, this touch makes his job more fun and interesting. And it's actually the writers who provide the song ideas. With the mood they set, sometimes they'll write a song into the script.  But it doesn't work 100% of the time. Gary said that putting the song up against the picture will sometimes show it's just not a good fit. That's when Gary provides the "Plan B" music. In one example, Gary talked about a song titled "Hitting the Floor", which was to play during a scene of an actual severed head hitting the floor.
"But the song was not working. Well, I actually knew of a great song by P.J. Harvey called "Hitting the Ground."  So, we changed the title [from "Floor" to "Ground"] and it still worked thematically."
Working at night as a DJ, Gary listens to a lot of music, which helps him with ideas for True Blood. Now that he has the feel for what the series 'sounds like', it's a little easier for him to read the script and find the right song to recommend. Once the music is approved by Alan, it's Gary's job to check on the license and negotiate the deal for use. Nathan Barr is the show's composer for original score and often it's a song that leads into the score. So both Nathan and Gary need to be in sync. But what about the show's characters?
"Yeah, each character definitely has their own taste and their own type of music that might be playing along with their theme. It depends on what's going on in the scene, but Jason's taste is much different than Sookie's and Sam's taste is much different than Lafayette's."
In discussing the budget for music, Gary sighs when he thinks about a Led Zeppelin song that worked perfectly for a particular scene.
"But they're just way too expensive and you know, don't really do television unless you want to pay them an exorbitant amount of money. No TV show could really afford to have Led Zeppelin. Then it's my job to find something that's even better for a fraction of the price."
I, for one, think he's doing a really fine job. Source: ifc.com (1st part2nd part) – The Man Behind the Music of HBO's "True Blood" (photo credit - ifc.com)

Lucrezia Borgia:  She is an  Italian noblewoman who has already killed before the opera starts, and she just might be as insane as Lorena Krasiki. During the opera Lucrezia kills an entire ballroom full of guests with her poison, and one of the targets was her own son. Dialogues of the Carmelites: Set during the French Revolution at a nunnery, this two-act opera is based on historical events that took place at a monestary of Carmelite.  The sounds of guillotines can be heard over singing nuns. Lulu: Where else could you find suicide, lesbians, murder, blackmail and Jack the Ripper?  I think it is safe to say that while Lulu might resemble the confused Sookie Stackhouse, the comparison stops there. Tosca: Torture, murder and suicde are the words of the day in the opera set in 1800 Rome. Though we would never want this to happen to Andy Bellefluer, the murder of the police chief is just one of the highlights of the performance filled with sex and violence. People who are not opera fans may not have realized just how dramatic, scary, and bloody it can be.  Now is your chance to explore this realm and possibly find a way to pass those cold empty Sunday nights until we are once again graced with new episodes of our favorite show.
