Alan Ball Talks to the Guardian about True Blood Season 2 in the UK

Executive producer Alan Ball is immersed in work on Season 3 of True Blood, but he took some time to think back on the second season since those episodes began airing in the UK this week. Speaking with the Guardian, Alan discusses the many things that make the show so addictive. He told the story of buying Dead Until Dark that has become so memorable to us now as the birth of True Blood. Charlaine Harris' books quickly had him hooked, and it was impossible for him to read just one chapter and stop:
"It's the way people watch TV a lot now, in the DVD boxiest. You watch an episode and you gotta watch the next one. And there's something kind of fun and dare I say addictive about that. I think it's all great for the show."
He loved the blend of horror, humor, and romance in Sookie's story, and he has sought to maintain that on the show. He also finds a lot of interesting material to develop in the Southern setting:
"Originally when I started working on the series, I wanted to explore the twin polarities in the South of Sunday morning revival church meetings, and Saturday night at the bar where you go and get so drunk that you give yourself permission to do the things you wanna do. Because they're opposite sides of the same desire, which is the desire for transcendence."
There are plenty of things about True Blood that people criticize, but Alan cites the mindset of HBO as the reason they are able to take risks. Otherwise, the show might be diluted to appeal to more people's sensibilities, but it would also prevent them from being as creative in their storytelling on True Blood:
"The executives at HBO don't want things to be easy and overly explained and pre-digested. They want things to be complicated. If this show was on a network then Bill and Sookie's relationship would be perfect and he'd never do anything horrible and it wouldn't be messy and you'd never see them have sex and him actually bite her. But that's the point."
He knows that the show is more for an adult audience, but he also doesn't believe that some younger people are as sheltered as they are expected to be:
"It's never been for young teenagers. I've always thought it was a show for adults. And by the way, if people think teenagers aren't having sex, they're out of their minds! I mean teenagers are like vampires. They basically are sex!"
A bit of a shocking remark to end the interview on, but it's no surprise coming from him! Fans love the show just the way it is, and we are grateful that Alan can be just as twisted as his heart desires! SOURCE: guardian.co.uk (Photo credit:  teamsugar.com)

"Flame on!" Ryan Kwanten as the Human Torch?

On comicbookmovie.com, fansite member LEEE777 posted his opinions on who he'd re-cast for the "Fantastic Four " movie. Based on the comic book character, super hero Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), in addition to flying, has the powers of generating flames and surrounding himself with them.
"He can engulf his entire body in flames, is able to fly, can absorb fire harmlessly into his own body and can control any nearby fire by sheer force of will. "Flame on!", which the Torch customarily shouts when activating his full-body flame effect, has become his catchphrase."
Stating that, when compared to his beautiful and compassionate sister, Johnny Storm is brash and impetuous, perhaps LEEE777 had in mind Ryan Kwanten in his "True Blood" role as Jason Stackhouse when he wrote, "No brainer really, Ryan is Human Torch." Should there ever be a remake of "Fantastic Four," fans would probably find Ryan a very believable human torch.  Flame on! SOURCE: comicbookmovie.com (Photo credit:  comicbookmovie.com)

Charlaine Harris: A Female Force To Be Reckoned With

In exciting news for fans of HBO's "True Blood" and the Sookie Stackhouse series on which it is based, author Charlaine Harris will be featured in Bluewater Productions' Female Force comic book biography series.  This follows hot on the heels of the news that Charlaine's Harper Connelly series is to be published in graphic format. Bluewater Productions is a publishing company that specializes in comic book, graphic novel and multimedia stories of classic myths, science fiction and superheroes.  They have also recently begun to publish the biography comic series FEMALE FORCE and POLITICAL POWER.  According to the Bluewater Productions, Charlaine is the first subject of a graphic format biography to agree to participate in its production and spent considerable time with the comic's writer, Kim Sherman. Female Force: Charlaine Harris will trace the writer's career from the publication of the lighthearted Aurora Teargarden mysteries to the phenomenon of her vampire-infused Sookie Stackhouse stories. Here is the Official Press release:
Bluewater brings to life the story of Sookie Stackhouse's and "TRUE BLOOD" creator It's the rare author who achieves superstar status. Stephen King, Anne Rice, Tom Clancy, John Grisham and J.K. Rowling may be household names. But for every one of them, there are hundreds of struggling writers who watch as their masterpieces never make it anywhere near the New York Times' bestseller list. For most of the more than 20 years that Charlaine Harris has spent writing mysteries, she fit squarely into that later category. She had her fans, but she was nowhere near a household name. Then she created a character called Sookie Stackhouse, and everything changed. Sookie Stackhouse is now the featured character on HBO's hit southern gothic vampire series True Blood. And Harris, who will release her 10th Sookie Stackhouse book this summer, is finally one of those household names. This May, Harris will also star in her first comic book, as the subject of Bluewater Productions' latest entry in its popular Female Force line of biographical comics. Harris herself participated in Female Force: Charlaine Harris, granting extensive interviews to writer Kim Sherman. This marks an important first for Bluewater: Harris is the first celebrity to be interviewed for the Female Force series. "Gathering first-hand information and feeling the strength that Harris exudes, both personally and professionally, immensely contributes to the originality and authenticity of this Female Force book," said writer Sherman. Nathanlie Ooten provided the interior art for Female Force: Charlaine Harris, while artist Patricio Carbajal provided the cover. Female Force: Charlaine Harris will trace the writer's career from the publication of the lighthearted Aurora Teargarden mysteries to the phenomenon of her vampire-infused Sookie Stackhouse stories. This book is an especially appropriate one for Sherman. Earlier, Sherman wrote Bluewater's Fame: Robert Pattison, profiling the actor who stars as the vampire with a conscience in the hit Twilight movies. In profiling Harris, Sherman is again exploring the world of literary vampires. For Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, the Harris biography provides another chance to introduce new readers to the world of comic books. "With our Female Force, Fame and Political Power biography comics, we've introduced countless new readers to the joy of sequential storytelling," Davis said. "These comics have proven to be exceptionally popular. We expect Charlaine Harris' story to attract even new readers to the graphic format." Female Force: Charlaine Harris will retail for $3.99, and will include 32 pages. "Charlaine Harris is an inspiration to young writers everywhere," Davis added. "Harris never quit on her dreams to become a published writer. And she kept writing until she reached the explosive success that her Sookie Stackhouse books now enjoy. I'm thrilled to present this talented writer's story to the fans who only know Stackhouse from True Blood."

What Creatures May Be In True Blood's Future

The Southern Vampire Mysteries are full of paranormal creatures. Some, like vampires, are obviously there from the very beginning. Others, however, come much later in the series. One of those creatures is the werewolf, which as we know will be appearing in True Blood's upcoming season three, and presumably for as long as True Blood continues to create new seasons. In future books (beyond book three) and possibly future True Blood seasons, there could be many other new creatures too. An upcoming plotline for season four of True Blood will most likely involve Eric Northman getting amnesia and becoming completely antithetical of what we know him to be, acting almost as though he's "fallen out of a Twilight novel". Another possibility for future seasons of True Blood is the introduction of faeries. Should they be introduced, we'd probably meet a pair of twin faeries with a connection to one of True Blood's lead characters. We could also meet a couple of other new characters important to the lead characters of True Blood, including John Quinn, a weretiger who will be very important to Sookie, and Charles Twining, who has the awesome designation of being a vampire pirate bartender. So, we've now got vampires, shapeshifters, and other were-creatures for sure, but there's still more that we could find added to the cast of our favorite show. At this point, we could also see witches, demons and maybe even a mixed creature that is a werewolf and a vampire! Of course, none of this is for sure, since season three is still in the works, but of course, anything is possible in the magical True Blood world that Alan Ball is creating. All About True Blood, Philosophically Speaking

Mystical hierarchies, gods and goddesses, the blurred line between good and evil ... philosophers can have a field day with the happenings in "True Blood." And apparently, they did. They had so much to talk about, they're publishing a book about it: True Blood and Philosophy. Dr. William Irwin has a new addition to his "... and Philosophy" series, a series where he and various authors and editors put together essays extracting philosophical theories from pop culture hits. Past books have included Seinfeld and Philosophy, The Office and Philosophy, and The Matrix and Philosophy. His most recent publication, True Blood and Philosophy, will analyze our favorite folks in Bon Temps. And it's about so much more than vampires: "Now True Blood and Philosophy calls on the minds of some of history's great thinkers to perform some philosophical bloodletting on such topics as Sookie and the metaphysics of mindreading; Maryann and sacrificial religion; werewolves, shapeshifters and personal identity; vampire politics, evil, desire and much more." These books tend to be very intellectual and give readers a chance to examine their favorite shows and characters from a whole new perspective. Irwin has a knack for appealing to both sides of the spectrum - "True Blood" fans could brush up on their philosophy and maybe some philosophers will find themselves glamored by "True Blood." This book will be released on June 1, 2010, coinciding nicely with the second season DVD release and of course the start of the third season. June can't come fast enough. True Blood Season Two DVD Blu-ray Details

Who could forget the events of "True Blood's" season two? Sookie and Bill travel to Dallas on a quest to find Eric's beloved Godric, only to have Sookie locked in the basement of the Fellowship of the Sun church and Bill held captive by his maker, Lorena. Jason attempts to find answers and redemption at the Fellowship of the Sun's Light of Day Institute. Maryann arrives in Bon Temps, rescues Tara, but manages to manipulate all the townsfolk, commit two murders and attempt a third of Sam! Sam thinks he has found a shape-shifting companion that understands him but who is really part of Maryann's master plan. VIDEO: Alexander Skarsgard's True Blood Season 2 Promo For The UK

As "True Blood's" popularity continues to sweep across the globe, fans who reside in the United Kingdom will be the next group to experience season two. This video trailer gives UK fans the first taste of what to expect for "True Blood's" second season. The promo helps explain that the vampires in "True Blood" are different from a lot of their blood-sucking counterparts in today's pop culture. They are a darker, more intense and not afraid to step outside the box. Fans will also delight to know that the show doesn't deviate from its no-holds-barred approach to issues like addiction, prejudice and sexuality. To help UK fans satiate their blood lust for the upcoming season, this promo features Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman) and Michelle Forbes (Maryann) who provide a few teaser bits of information about the upcoming season. When asked about season two, Alexander Skarsgard can only respond:
"I guess, yeah, it's pretty wild."
Michelle Forbes also adds a little extra information about her character Maryann:
"Maryann initially is quite mysterious and we don't quite know what she's up too ... she seems somehow fixated on Tara, we know she has a history with Sam, we don't know what it is and then in season two all of this is answered and revealed ..."
Be sure to watch the video to the end for an extra special treat: Michelle Forbes responds to the question: Who would win in fight between "True Blood" vampires and the "Twilight" crew?

PHOTOS: Alexander Skarsgard Attends Calvin Klein Collection After-Party

Alexander Skarsgard hit the New York City fashion scene last week along with his Straw Dogs co-star Kate Bosworth. Both attended the February 18th Women's Fall 2010 Calvin Klein Collection after-party. Alexander and Kate reportedly finished off the night by grabbing drinks and a bite to eat on the 18th floor of the ever-exclusive The Standard Hotel. During the night, someone spilled a drink on Kate's dress, prompting Alexander to come to his friend's aid and help her clean up the mess before leaving the swanky establishment.

True Blood Fans Watch and Wait

So many questions were left unanswered after the season finale, and the tidbits of news that we hear from the cast and crew keep the fans on the edge. What happened to Bill? How far is the love triangle going to develop with Sookie, Eric, and Bill? Will Hoyt and Jessica mend their relationship? Is this new boyfriend of Lafayette's the real deal or is there a hidden agenda behind him? Is Tara going to cope with Egg's death in a healthy way? Maybe find a new love? Eric is supposed to have a new lover, a new dancer at Fangtasia. So much has been said that the fans can't wait for the third season, and this is what some of them are saying: "After I finished watching the 2nd season I thought to myself, "How can they move on from this? It was such a great season." After reading this I am so excited. I would love to be a writer on this show."- Becca - www.myspsace.com "Wow, fantastic teaser. I'm sure, like all of the shows fans, we are very anxious about the return of "True Blood". I have been watching some of the repeats of season one on HBO, and they've made me realize how much more evolved season 2 is, (though I loved and still love season 1!). Wow, Alfre Woodard will be a fantastic addition as Lafayette's mother! Sounds fantastic. Cannot wait but will have to, I guess!" - Marcia - www.myspace.com "Wow! She is stunning! I thought this Yvette character was only a rumor but I guess its confirmed now. I hope she'll only be his lover for a little while. I'm all about Eric and Sookie getting together!! YAY!"- Amy - www.truebloodnet.com "My theory is that Eric has him [Bill] or at least another vampire does, if you remember earlier in episode 12 or even episode 11. Eric was in talks with the Queen who has instructed Eric to take care of Bill. At the end of E12 someone took Bill with a silver chain or net (curse my memory). Did any one notice that this person was wearing black leather gloves?"- Kassidy - www.truebloodnet.com "I know that there are those who are skeptical at how well season 3 is going to work, with all the new characters and multiple story arcs that it looks like are going to be featured, but I have high hopes. I think the shows creators should have more idea of where they're heading, and the regular cast are more settled in their characters. The shows success should mean a larger budget and the network allowing more risks. Plus, we're getting weres this season! And more flashbacks!"- aphroditemf - www.imdb.com "I am actually pretty excited for season 3. I am looking forward to all of AB's added extras."- Eric Rocks - www.hbo.com "But I can't wait to see Sookie and Eric interact. This is a crucial time for the threesome. I love Eric, his personality is just great. The other characters I will wait on commenting about. There are some good ones coming but I don't want to ruin anything for those of you who haven't read the books."- jen s. - www.hbo.com As you can see we all are excited for a bit more of, "True Blood".  June isn't just coming fast enough for us.  At least we've got the May release of the second season on DVD to tied us over, as well as our copies of the first season.
