Charlaine Harris Attends "If All Arkansas" Book Event

'If All Arkansas Read the Same Book' Program

Charlaine HarrisFans of Charlaine Harris packed into the Campus Center at Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock to get a chance to hear her speak and have their books autographed. Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books are the subject of the 'If All Arkansas Read the Same Book' program for 2010.  She spoke for about 10 minutes and then answered questions from the fans in the audience.  Harris revealed that she has completed the 11th Sookie Stackhouse book and is contracted for 2 more after that. While she confirmed that there definitely will not be anymore Lily Bard books she didn't rule out the return of Aurora Teagarden. One fan asked Harris how she comes up with the sexy, violent acts in her books seeing as how Magnolia is not a happening town. Harris replied:
"You don't know my husband. And I have a great imagination....my husband would die if he knew I said that."
Some audience members asked Harris if she has trouble keeping her Sookie Stackhouse characters straight now that True Blood has become so popular. She replied that her characters are exactly how she imagined them and she pointed out that Alan Ball doesn't stick to the books as written. The If All Arkansas Read the Same Book was started in 2001.  For its 10th anniversary the first 10 books of the Sookie Stackhouse novels were chosen as part of a "10 Books in 10 Months" campaign.  The program encourages reading in Arkansas and "protects the state's rich literary heritage by preserving and promoting books and literature".
