Anna Paquin's Film The Romantics Reviewed from Sundance

An early version of Anna Paquin's upcoming wedding dramedy, The Romantics, was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah earlier this week. A critic for USA Today says that the movie "has potential to be one of the festival's breakouts." The Romantics tells the story of a group of college friends who come together for the marriage of two of their own. All the usual shenanigans ensue, from drunken toasts to surprising hook ups. Aside from Anna as bride-to-be Lila, the cast includes Katie Holmes as the maid of honor who was once involved with, and still has feelings for, the groom-to-be, played by Josh Duhamel. Their friends are played by Malin Akerman, Adam Brody, Jeremy Strong, and Rebecca Lawrence. Dianna Agron and Elijah Wood play Lila's sister and brother. When interviewed, the actors have praised the project for being funny and real. They think that people will be able to enjoy it and relate to the characters. One reviewer from the Hollywood Reporter singles out Anna in particular for bringing a spark of life to her role that makes her stand out from the others, although The Romantics is mainly about the journey of Katie Holmes' Laura. The film is based on a novel by Galt Niederhoffer, who adapted the screenplay as well as directed. When people viewed it at Sundance, the post-production was not quite finished. The music score has yet to be added, and Niederhoffer mentioned that she would be making a few more changes. There is no US release date as of yet. People have said such great things about Anna's performance, it will be great to see her in this whenever it does come out!
