"True Blood's" Angels And Demons

HOLLYWOOD—Sunday night's episode of "True Blood" titled "I Will Rise Up" was heartbreaking and entertaining. When the previous episode "Time Bomb" ended, a terrorist from the Fellowship of the Light Church had arrived and pressed the button detonating the bomb he was wearing on his chest in order to kill the vampires who were gathered at Godric's home.

Sunday night we learned that only a few vampires perished in the explosion but many were affected by the outcome. Godric, the 2000-year-old vampire, loved by fans, survived the initial explosion and many of the vampires managed to heal themselves. Eric used the event to not only protect the human Sookie, who is Bill's lover, but he also fooled her into drinking some of his blood which means the two have a permanent bond. Fans can see the romance between Sookie and Eric building. Some are happy, most are not. Bill, played by Stephen Moyer, still has a huge group of fans who want to see him and Sookie, played by Anna Paquin, work out.

ryankwanten3torsoangelwings-bEric who is portrayed by handsome and talented actor Alexander Skarsgard had a very big storyline on Sunday. Eric's maker Godric was prominently featured and the connection the two characters had was very deep and spiritual. Eric is forever changed by what transpired on Sunday. He and Sookie not only have a bond now that cannot be broken, but fans saw a different side of the often cold and calculating vampire, who grieved and cried for the loss of his maker.

Fan of the series Steve Macek said, "One thing I love about True Blood is that they have not simply regurgitated Charlaine Harris' novels on the small screen. Instead, watching each episode becomes a parallel universe experience, where characters that you may have seen meet their end on paper may be alive and well on screen, but the overall story arcs are preserved. The beauty of the small screen version is that some of the more minor characters are really fleshed out [sic]."

Wendy Johnston has enjoyed the series from another perspective, she says, "Absolutely the most compelling drama on TV! I thought at first this would be another one of my husband's far-out sci-fi fantasy shows, but one episode had me hooked. Now I'm reading all the books on which the series is based."

This has become a series for couples to enjoy. Steve Macek's beautiful genius wife Alina is also hooked on V and the series as well.

After the initial shock wore off viewers that all of our most beloved vampires survived the terrorist attack, we were shocked to see the vampire bureaucrat fire Godric as Sheriff. He was blamed for being kidnapped by the Reverend Steve's flock and also for not having the foresight to see the impending attack at his nest. Godric protected his friends and Sookie tried her best to make it known that Godric had saved her from being raped and murdered. His punishment was secured by his own words. Godric chose death. Whatever he endured while in captivity seemed to weigh on the Christ-like figure. He willingly gave up his life. Eric begged his maker to not offer his life as a sacrifice, but Godric ordered Eric to leave.

Anna Paquin's emotional scenes with Godric in his final moments as he theorized his punishment by God for being a vampire and then his joy at being able to see a sunrise for the first time in over 2000 years was eclipsed by his destruction by sunlight, which burned the vampire into ashes on the roof of a building. It was sad but uplifting to watch Godric's ascension into death with such dignity and grace.

Sookie and Eric are both forever changed, as Eric lost his maker and Sookie witnessed the lonely death of a vampire who was considered godly to many of the other vampires. She also was plagued by seductive dreams of Eric, whose blood she ingested in order to save his life, only to find out that he was healing himself and had actually lied because her help was not necessary for his life to be saved. Her anger soon turned to a burgeoning obsession of Eric.

Sacrifices in Dallas were plenty. Jason and Sookie had the most moving scenes in the episode as they both spoke of losing their grandmother and their innocence in their childhood by losing their parents so early as well. Ryan Kwanten showed "True Blood" fans and viewers that he has the stuff of actors. Playing a dummy or a nit wit sometimes seems easy, but it's not. His dramatic side was a welcomed sight for fans and critics who wanted to know that he was much more than a pretty face. He proved he is a strong actor as well.

However, the main sacrifice on Sunday luckily never occurred. Satan in the form of Maryann went to the jail back in Bon Temps, which means "good times" in French. There were very little good times in the town that is being ravaged by Satan, who is demanding the town's people turn over Sam Merlotte played brilliantly by actor Sam Trammell. Maryann thought she'd had her victim when she went to the jail and possessed Sheriff Dearborn played by character actor William Sanderson. She released her minions from their cells and went to find Sam, who had luckily shape-shifted into a fly and got away from Satan just in a nick of time.

Maryann was very unhappy, who then went to Sam's bar and demanded that the bar patrons and Sam's workers give her what she wanted. "Your god demands his sacrifice, where is Sam Merlotte?" She later went home, which is Sookie's house, and possessed Tara and Eggs again, which she's been doing for weeks now. Tara's cousin Lafayette and her mother arrived to find her drinking and eyes black as coal. Lafayette beat Eggs and got Tara out of the house and took her away, while she was screaming in a demonic voice and struggling to remain with Eggs and Maryann, who is most likely Satan himself. Maryann told Eggs, "Let her go, she'll be back, so will they." Meaning Tara's mom and Lafayette.

Sookie, Eric, Bill and Jason are headed back home to Louisiana and are about to find home is not where the heart is. It's where Satan has taken up residence. Fans are excited about this storyline. Kim says, "Loved the first season of True Blood but missed a bit of season two. That wont happen again with all of this CRAZY stuff going on! I'm back on board the Bloodmobile! Eric is one determined vampire [sic]."

Jason and Sookie are prepared to deal with Maryann next week who has taken up residence in their family home. Kurt B. Stennett said, "Time to kick some Maryann ass next week." Sounds like he's been chatting with Jason Stackhouse.

Fans concurred about the loss of the great character Godric. Cindy Williams Payne said, "I cried like a baby when Godric died. Eric does have love in him." And Lauren Chu said, "The ending was a tragedy. I almost cried my eyes out! Godric shouldn't of [sic] died. Sookie's dream with Eric was intense and romantic now that he's a part of her."

"I'm thrilled that the show has decided to revisit the brother/sister relationship between Jason and Sookie. I think it's been far too long since they have touched base and realized that importance they share as siblings. Tonight's episode was, by far, the best of the season, at least in my humble opinion. The complications are really deepening, and I know I'm going to have a long, tortuous wait for the third season," said Rene Thurston.

"True Blood" is winding down to the last three episodes of the season. Maryann as Satan has come front and center. Her lust for the soul of Sam has caused her to lose any element of discretion she may have once had. Fans want to see her demise and the safety of their favorite characters back in their own hands. "True Blood" fans are looking for an angel to save their town of Bon Temps. Jason's got my vote. After his talk with Sookie on Sunday night, fans see a greater Jason emerging in the final episodes. One that is brave and determined. "True Blood" angels and demons are about to have an epic battle.
