True Blood Invaded by Dead Space

trueblood_wiiFor those of us True Blood fans out there, it's not a new fact that Bill Compton owns a Nintendo Wii. He didn't seem to pleased when he and Sookie went to the house and found out Maxine wasn't herself, and the only remedy to keep her under control was to play Bill's Wii. Makes you wonder with Bill playing games like this, maybe that is why he seems to be always so calm? I don't know about you, but my curiosity went haywire after seeing that clip of Maxine going crazy on a game that I definitely wanted to sink my teeth into. After doing some research, we found out that a gaming company by the name of EA is doing a prequel type game to the successful Dead Space series. For those of you who own gaming systems and love the horror survival genre (I do), this game is for you.  Its appearance created a series of questions: "Why did it appear on True Blood?", "When can I get it, and what else exists that has do with this twisted game?" To answer theses questions let's start by thinking rationally, shall we? True Blood is one, of if not, the hottest show on television right now. So what better place to market a cool game like Dead Space:  Extraction? Secondly, the majority of True Blood's audience consists of Mature audience (and this game is rated for mature audiences) Nintendo strays from accidentally scaring the crap out of little kids, and stays out of trouble with would be mad parents. Finally, what else is on TV that ties in with the game? There was a movie that was released called Dead Space:  Downfall.
The plot:   in the distant future, due to interstellar space travel advancements, humanity has started setting up massive mining operations on other planets. Alien life has not been discovered yet, but a certain mining site uncovers a ancient and mysterious artifact which seems to be related to a religious current that places a similar object at its base. The massive artifact is being prepared to be transported to Earth on a transport ship but upon its arrival strange events take place involving the personnel of the mining facility. Paranoia, delusions and a unexplained wave of violent incidents among the miners. The source of these increasingly strange events starts pointing more and more towards the alien object, and the senior security officer on the ship is the only one that seems to foresee the danger.
The action develops quite intensely from there, so I don't want to give to much more away. Then you have the original Ps3 game,"Dead Space".  The player takes the role of Isaac Clarke (named after science fiction writers Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke, an engineer who must fight his way through a stricken mining ship infested with hostile, grotesque monstrosities called Necromorphs, which are human corpses transformed and reanimated by an unknown alien organism. The game features an 'over the shoulder' third-person perspective, similar to the game-play in"Resident Evil 5" and "Gears of War". Players can upgrade modules, including suit and weapons. Its definitely worth checking out.  I would highly recommend checking these games out, just be cautious you don't run into Maxine while trying to purchase them. She might wanna come over and play with you. Tune into True Blood this Sunday at 9pm on HBO to see what other surprises might show up, and to see if Maxine advances out of the current level she's stuck in.
