Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood to be Thor?

eric2Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood is rumoured to be possibly cast to play the role of Thor in the Marvel Studio movie of the same name scheduled to be released in theatres on July 16th, 2010. The movie is based upon the Norse God, Thor, a hero who can fly, wields a magical hammer that is powerful and enables him to defeat his enemies as he lives a double life in heavenly Asgard and on Earth. Latino Review stated that a reader saw Kenneth Branagh (the director of the film) dining in a Los Angeles restaurant with Alexander Skarsgard (Generation Kill and HBO's True Blood) leading to speculation that Mr. Branagh is considering Alexander Skarsgard to play the lead role of Thor. According to reports 32-years old Alexander is 6'4" and shares the same agency as Mr. Branagh. According to casting calls for the movie Alexander does fit the physical requirements for the part:
"Male MUST BE MID-LATE 20'S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD. Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severely humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film."
Other names have been mentioned on various sites: Karl Urban, Gerard Butler, James Preston Rogers, Brad Pitt, Viggo Mortenson, Guy Pearce, and Paul Telfer along with Alexander Skarsgard. Filming is set to begin in July, so the studio is looking at their various options and it seems that Alexander Skarsgard is in the lead based upon the sighting however, the official word from the Skarsgard camp on all this Thor business is "no comment."
