Ryan Kwanten Talks About Acting and True Blood

ryanimdbRyan Kwanten's acting career has been on a steady incline with more roles and opportunities opening up for him. As reported by Scott Ellis in the Australian Sun-Herald it is very common for Australian actors to graduate from acting schools and to work locally before taking the leap to the U.S. only for many of them finding themselves coming back home disillusioned. Not in the case of Ryan Kwanten who currently stars in Alan Ball's hit HBO TV series True Blood as "ladies man," Jason Stackhouse. Ryan started on the Australian drama "Home And Away" as Vinne Patterson until 2004 when he decided to take a chance and go out to Hollywood. As a result, he has been a success ever since. Not only does he star as a regular cast member of True Blood but guest starred in "Law & Order SUV" as a solider accused of raping and killing a fellow soldier. On True Blood Ryan plays the role of Jason Stackhouse, the town Casanova and brother of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) a telepathic bar waitress who falls in love with a 173 year old vampire, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).
"It's rare that an actor can have one role [at a time] let alone two, so I'll take it when it's given to me," Kwanten says, in a brief break from filming True Blood. "To be honest, I came here [to Los Angeles] with a one-week ticket and it's now years later ... it's been good. "I'd like to think I'm a resilient kind of guy - I work hard. It's a tough business but, like anything in life, if you put in the hard yards, you get the rewards."
Ryan states that perhaps one of the best things that has happened to him is playing Jason Stackhouse on True Blood and working with Alan Ball.
"The first and best note Alan gave me was when he said 'more than anything it's fun to be Jason'," Kwanten says. "I've taken that [advice] and just run with it. Part of the allure of the show is this eclectic mix of characters. That really makes everything so unpredictable and I'm really glad to be able to be a part of that."
