Alfre Woodard to be Keynote Speaker for Women's Foundation Luncheon

The Women's Foundation of Colorado Names Alfre Woodard Keynote Speaker for 2010 Luncheon

Alfre WoodardAlfre Woodard, who plays Lafayette's mentally ill mother on HBO's True Blood, has been named the Keynote Speaker for The Women's Foundation of Colorado's 2010 Annual Luncheon. The fundraising luncheon will take place November 4, 2010 in Denver. Woodard has appeared in many television shows and movies, winning Emmy's for her performances in Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Miss Evers' Boys, and The Practice. The Women's Foundation of Colorado's motto is Think Big. Be Bold. Make Change. The organization has invested millions of dollars in nonprofits since 1987 to change the lives of women and girls in Colorado.
"The goal of the foundation is that every woman in Colorado is economically self-sufficient, and every girl in Colorado is on the path to economic self-sufficiency in adulthood. We believe that changes in public policy will have the greatest impact in assisting women in their efforts to achieve economic self-sufficiency."
Woodard supports many great causes and is an active mentor to young girls. In November 2009 she worked with Michelle Obama to help initiate the First Lady's national girls' mentoring effort, appearing at the Governor's Mansion and several Denver schools. She also helped found Artists for a New South Africa, a nonprofit organization dedicated to democracy and equality in South Africa and civil rights in the United States. Her presentation at the luncheon will be entitled "Empowering Girls to be Next Generation Leaders". The luncheon will be held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver on November 4, 2010 from 11:30am to 1:15pm.
