Dead Until Dark One of the 10 Best Books of the Decade

dead-until-darkFor the past couple of years, we've seen how True Blood and Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series have fueled each other's success and gathered a devoted group of fans to both. With True Blood earning a place on several Best of '09 lists, Charlaine's books are being well represented, too. About.com ranks Dead Until Dark, not just as one of the best books of the year, but of the decade. They made their choices based on which books were dominating bestseller lists from 2000-2009 and also had an impact on popular culture.
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling 2. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer 3. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown 4. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini 5. The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell 6. Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin 7. Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner 8. The Road by Cormac McCarthy 9. The Shack by William P. Young 10. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris Dead Until Dark is the first book in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire series, which inspired the HBO TV series True Blood and 8 sequels through 2009. Published in 2001, Dead Until Dark took off later in the decade with the popularity of the TV series and the Twilight-driven vampire craze.
That's certainly a nice distinction for Charlaine to end the decade with! As more seasons of True Blood are produced and more Sookie books are written, hopefully their popularity and success will continue to grow! SOURCE: bestsellers.about.com (Photo credit: sookie-stackhouse-series.com)
