True Blood Continues to Receive Media Recognition for 2009 in Review

trueblood4Unsurprisingly to the fans, True Blood is showing up on countless best-of-the-year lists, from many different outlets across the US and abroad. It just goes to show what a strong presence the show had this year! No opinion is the same, however, and the critics are giving varied responses as to why they wanted to include it on their year-end summary. One writer from the San Francisco Chronicle ranked True Blood tenth, saying:
"Sex, blood, vampires and topical metaphors - what's not to like? This is one of those crazily addictive series that seems stuck just below greatness. It seems content to be a very good, very weird, soap opera that can ratchet up your tensions and align darkness with sexy. Which was good enough for 10th."
I'm sure lots of you will take issue with his remark about the show being "stuck just below greatness," but not everyone sees it that way. The huge Canadian media website, Canada.com, put True Blood at #4. They talked about how the series stood out in the midst of all the vampire stories this year as one that did away with cliches and popular conventions through "Alan Ball's sexy, sensational allegory about everlasting life and long lost loves." They also call Anna Paquin's Sookie Stackhouse and Stephen Moyer's Bill Compton the most enchanting couple on TV. Everyone thinks differently about True Blood and what they like or don't like about it, but the show is making an overwhelming appearance on these lists, and not just in America. What a great honor for Alan Ball and everyone who works on True Blood to see how much people care about the show! SOURCES: sfgate.com canada.com (Photo credit: HBO Inc.)
