Stephen Moyer's Playboy Magazine Interview

With 20 years of acting experience, Stephen Moyer has gained notoriety as vampire Bill Compton on HBO's hit TV series, True Blood, now in its 3rd season. In their July issue, Playboy Magazine interviewed Stephen Moyer where he discussed vampire sex, his prosthetic fangs, when he lost his virginity, his relationship with Anna Paquin and more in a very candid commentary. On sex between a vampire and human, Stephen said that vampire sex is "muscular and physical" and could last for days.  So it would be less tiring for a female human and male vampire due to a human male's not-so-lasting stamina.  And speaking of the attraction of human females to male vampires, I think Stephen hit the nail on the head, so to speak.
"I often think a lot of women's attraction to vampires is based on the fact that vampires come from centuries ago, from eras of chivalry and courtly virtues.  So it's about being treated like a lady but being physically overtaken in the sack."
Comparing the undead to another supernatural creature, he informs us that sex with a vampire will never be hot and steamy because they are so cold.  Werewolves, however, are very hot. Looking back at all the sex on the show's first two seasons, Stephen wondered how they could possibly top that in this new season.
"Sex on our show is like a big muffin that's heating up, overflowing and expanding in an oven."
Now there's a yummy visual!  And it seems that Stephen believes they have, indeed, found the topping.  With the show being focused on the characters, it promises to keep the sexual scenes interesting. Stephen commented on his prosthetic fangs.  Laughing, he said that he has four sets and keeps one set at home.  They are insured and before they get locked up at night, they get a scrubbing with Listermint. Asked to compare True Blood with Twilight, Stephen had a wonderful comparison.
"That's like comparing Monterey Jack and Roquefort."  "The Twilight movies fill a niche.  In her Twilight novels Stephenie Meyer has chosen a similar vampire framework to tell a story about burgeoning sexuality.  What's interesting about our show is that sexuality has already burgeoned.  I wish Twilight the best of luck, but I'm very happy to be doing True Blood."
So how did he come by the role of Bill Compton?  Over the course of his 20 years of acting, Stephen was fortunate to have steady work, with occasional unemployment lasting not more than 6 months.  Returning from back-to-back jobs away from home, he needed a time out and told his manager not to send him any scripts.  Fortunately for us, she convinced him to read "just this one".  Three days later he was in the office of show creator, Alan Ball. Moving on to his personal life, Playboy asked Stephen to comment on his relationship with fiance Anna, the paparazzi and losing his virginity. He has a very trusting and loving relationship with Anna, both on the set and off.  Stephen and Anna and an instant connection during the filming of the pilot for the show and when they finished filming and left for their home towns (Stephen for London and Anna for New York) they Skyped every night for 3-4 hours. He said he "felt as though part of me had been removed when Anna and I were apart." In describing his relationship with Anna, Stephen states,
"I'll take 74,000 words to express an emotion because I fear hurting someone's feelings. Anna will do it in three words. But we trust each other so implicitly that there's never anything hurtful; it always comes from a loving place. It's not as though people I've been with before haven't been loving, but with Anna it's just about pure trust, on camera and off. I have never trusted anybody like I trust Anna."
Although Stephen doesn't mind the press taking photos of him, he is concerned about their hounding of his children.  But he understands they're doing their jobs and figures if they're taking pictures of him and Anna, then their show must be popular.  He said he's got nothing to hide from the cameras and they're welcome to shoot him every morning picking up his dog's poop. With all the talk of vampire sex and all the sex on the show, Stephen was asked about losing his virginity.  He did not say at what age he started playing naughty games, but he did say he was very young, "below legal age".
"I was quite young when I started doing all right, below legal age and with somebody I knew very well. It happened outdoors and was very naughty and unexpected. In my little village some girls reached maturity at a young age, and there was a lot of 'you show me yours and I'll show you mine' stuff happening, lots of looking and a little bit of touching too, from a very young age."
It also seems that Stephen was a bit of a wild one growing up as he retold the story of how at the age of 13 he would take his parent's car out racing around with his best friend while his parents were out to racing on a racetrack for his 15th birthday.  Though once he was legally allowed to drive he didn't have a chance to drive for long.  Apparently after getting his Mini and jazzing it up with racing stuff he lost his driver's license three weeks after obtaining it for DUI.  He had to wait a year before he could legally drive again, but with his streak I wonder if that stopped him anyway.
